Artists working with children and young people need to have an understanding of where young people are “coming from” – what interests them, what is important to them, what it is that they want to create – as well as understanding and working with the school and community contexts that are such an integral part of the young person’s world.
As well as drawing on knowledge formed through their own experiences and relationships with young people, artists can gain greater understanding about young people and how to work with them through the knowledge and insights of education and health professionals.
